Set in Paris in 1919, biopic centers on the life of late Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, focusing on his last days as well as his rivalry with Pablo Picasso. Modigliani, a Jew, has fallen in love with Jeanne, a young and beautiful Catholic girl. The couple has an illegitimate child, and Jeannes bigoted parents send the baby to a faraway convent to be raised by nuns. Modigliani is distraught and needs money to rescue and raise his child. The answer arrives in the shape of Paris annual art competition. Prize money and a guaranteed career await the winner. Neither Modigliani, nor his dearest friend and rival Picasso have ever entered the competition, believing that it is beneath true artists like themselves. But push comes to shove with the welfare of his child on the line, and Modigliani signs up for the competition in a drunken and drug-induced tirade. Picasso follows suit and all of Paris is aflutter with excitement at who will win. With the balance of his relationship with Jeanne on the line, Modigliani tackles this work with the hopes of creating a masterpiece, and knows that all the artists of Paris are doing the same.

Cinematic art. A masterpiece, A film about a man that created masterpieces.

Even though the disclaimer at the start of the film explains that the characters may have been real, but the story is fiction, it doesn’t change the fact that the story is moving.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

I’ve just finished watching this movie. I’ve never heard of Modigliani until today, and only watched the movie because you’ve screened it as part of my membership. Art isn’t my favourite subject by any means, but I enjoyed it. Interested to see what you’ll screen next week.
Thank you.

I watched this last week because it was the Film Night movie. I’ve got to say that I would have NEVER watched this movie otherwise. It’s not my usual choice at all but I really enjoyed it. I’ve waiting to see this weeks movie just on the basis that you’re obviously showing good strong movies. (although I hope that they are not all soppy valentines chick flicks!) I’ve found the site through a friend and must say so far it’s refreshing to see that you’re not following the typical commercial path! I’m a student and interested in getting my silver membership, hence writing a review of 2! smile

Back to Modigliani! very good film set in the early 19th Century about his life and the times. Its a fictional piece that keeps you interested until the end! (and it definitely doesn’t end the way you’d expect!

Hope you find my ramblings useful.

Interested to see next week’s Film Night movie!

Thanks Guys!

Carl.
