The story revolves around a band struggling for its big break, the members all live in Mrs. McCorkle\'s boarding house and spend their time practicing on the roof, which maddens Charles Haskell, the wealthy owner of the neighbouring health food factory. Everyone else in the neighbourhood seems to love it.
Mrs McCorkles daughter(Goddard) sings in the band and has the utmost confidence that it will suceed. Jimmy Haskell(Stewart) arrives in town and immediately meets molly and the band. Hes a former music store owner who has come at the request of his music hating uncleGeorge Marshall, who advertises his products on a radio show, the Haskell Happy Hour - Music-less until he goes on vacation and Jimmy, Molly and the band take over.

Pot O Gold, a musical comedy centering on a music loving man Jimmy (Stewart) and his relationship with a band that are the thorn in his uncles side. Problems arise as he hides his real identity from his new found friends including attractive lead singer Molly (Goddard) and his friendship with the band from his uncle.
The film has some funny moments and Stewart plays comedy very well, Paulette Goddard, star of the silent era is a little weak in her acting when compared with Stewart and the musical numbers are light and not overused, well paced direction and a clean simple plot allows audiences to simply enjoy Pot O Gold for all the charm it processes.
