Light and amusing romantic comedy focusing on how love can change a man, David Niven’s BG Bruno is an uptight, to the point Businessman, that is until he meets American dancer Vera-Ellen and begins a romantic relationship with her. Straight away his stuffiness is gone and in place of it is a mellow, impassioned romantic.

The main plot involves Niven courting Vera-Ellen under a false identity after she mistakes him for a reporter; the director makes her the main star of the show in the hopes of receiving a donation from her rich businessman boyfriend.

The story works very well, giving equal share between characters; the film focuses solely on the romance of the two with the stage show as the backdrop, Niven is charming and plays his role in Happy Go Lovely perfectly, he carries the film like only someone of his pedigree could resulting in a pleasant musical comedy for all the family.
