Cameron(Michael Angarano) is a teenage film buff living in Los Angeles dreaming of making movies himself someday. A Major film school school in LA has announced a competition for young filmmakers, but while Cameron has talent and ideas, he is short of cash. One Evening, while attending a screening of Orson Welles Touch of Evil, he sees an elderly man, Flash Madden(Christopher Plummer), shouting at the screen about his old pal Orson. While Flash doesnt much care for Cameron at first, in time he sees a kindred spirit in the movie-mad teenager, and offers his technical know-how to the would be director. With Flashs help, perhaps Cameron can manage to create just the sort of movie he longs to make...

Man in the Chair stars Christopher Plummer and Michael Angarano as they form a close bond through their mutual love for all things film. Michael is a teen in transition, smart, well mannered but at times self destructive, Michael shows signs of becoming a major force in the film world, his acting is mature and affecting, Christopher Plummer plays an aged stage hand who longs for the days of old and lives his life in a drunken stupor recanting his life past without loss of animosity.
The movie serves as a flashback to the Hollywood of old, its history, beauty and personality before the corporate money spinner it has now become. And in this is the only negative of the movie, it tries to incorporate too elements that are left partially unresolved. Overall what Man in the chair does best is showcase this talent of the future in Angarano and the talent of the past in Plummer.
