The disturbed arts teacher, Anna Veigh, is hired by Mr. Laing as a governess to raise Flora and her brother Miles. Anna believes that the ghosts of the former governess, Miss Jessel, and housekeeper, Peter Quint, are in the property haunting the children, and she decides to help them to face the spirits and get their souls free.

In a dark place is a moody, chilling supernatural mystery about a governess Anna Veigh (Sobieski) who has to overstep her job description, relocated to a remote estate in the country she has to deal with two not so normal children, a cold housekeeper (Tara Fitzgerald) and the added possibility of disgruntled ghosts haunting the property.
As the film progresses, each character begins to develop odd behaviours, there is something unsettling about the kids but it is Anna who becomes unhinged and tormented, memories of her past and events of the present threaten to break her mentally.
The director does a very good job of revealing very little and leaves us guessing till the end, the film starts slow and builds momentum towards the confrontational final act.
