Fifth Street
(Crime, Martial Arts, Thrillers, Short Films)By Carl Roberts on 20/02/12
This film has a real element of suspense to it.. I really liked it. I’m not sure what the budget on this film was but it’s classy. It’s a well polished production. I’m interested to see what this guy Roddham will be doing in the next 10 years, if this is his first movie!
I’m going to watch it again.

Modigliani
(Drama, Romance)By Carl Roberts on 06/02/12
I watched this last week because it was the Film Night movie. I’ve got to say that I would have NEVER watched this movie otherwise. It’s not my usual choice at all but I really enjoyed it. I’ve waiting to see this weeks movie just on the basis that you’re obviously showing good strong movies. (although I hope that they are not all soppy valentines chick flicks!) I’ve found the site through a friend and must say so far it’s refreshing to see that you’re not following the typical commercial path! I’m a student and interested in getting my silver membership, hence writing a review of 2!

Modigliani
(Drama, Romance)By James Richardson on 31/01/12
I’ve just finished watching this movie. I’ve never heard of Modigliani until today, and only watched the movie because you’ve screened it as part of my membership. Art isn’t my favourite subject by any means, but I enjoyed it. Interested to see what you’ll screen next week.
Thank you.

Modigliani
(Drama, Romance)By Aaron on 31/01/12
Cinematic art. A masterpiece, A film about a man that created masterpieces.
Even though the disclaimer at the start of the film explains that the characters may have been real, but the story is fiction, it doesn’t change the fact that the story is moving.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

Let The Game Begin
(Comedy, Romance)By Hugh on 23/01/12
An original take on the dating game, Tripp realises that life, dating in particular, is a lot like a business deal. Using his new found perspective and ladies’ man business partner, he navigates the dangers of life and love but to varying degrees of success.
The film employs a computer game style approach with animated scene sequences to break up the individual similarities between life and computer games and also giving the film its own personality and this works for the most part. This is employed throughout the film but in small segments, though it may not add much to the film overall,...

Zombie Flesh Eaters
(Horror / Suspense)By Penelope on 20/01/12
One of the more revered zombie movies made during the golden era of horror, Lucio Fulci takes his tried and tested storyline and packs it full of gore, blood and iconic scenes that will stay with you for years to come.
Its easy to see why this films was so successful above so many others at the time, even through there is rarely anything that we haven’t seen before its in the execution of each scene that grips us with terror and uncertainty.
A gem in its time, a great watch in any other.

Zombie Holocaust
(Horror / Suspense)By Quang on 20/01/12
You’ve all seen this done before, and done much better too, on a isolated island somewhere in the world zombies crop up and a group of unfortunate doctors and volunteers are forced to survive by any means possible. Oh there are cannibals on the island as well to make a feast of dangers.
You should be familiar with the outline of what will likely happen throughout the film and also the pace and manner that these events play out, Your run of the mill walking dead movie.

Acolytes
(Thrillers)By Penelope on 20/01/12
Star of recent cinema release “Warrior” Joel Edgerton gets menacing and nasty in this taunt thriller, the film focuses on a trio of teens, casually drifting through life, except for the frequent run ins with a bully who likes to try to run them over periodically. If this wasn’t bad enough their lives are forever changed when they come across a dead body in the woods and the killer that put her there.
A real solid display of directing with a story that leads you into the unknown will leave you hooked to the last reveal. The young actors do an adequate job and Joel Edgerton is quickly...

Evil Aliens
(Action / Adventure, Comedy)By Antonynottage on 20/01/12
Being a Sci Fi fan and seeing Norman Lovett from red dwarf appearing in a film I had to watch this film - although Norman is in it for about 5 seconds LOL - but I was very surprised how good it was.
I don;t know what budget they had but it looks like they had millions when I am guessing they only had hundreds of thousands - the special effects are actually pretty damn amazing - the story is - well - urmm - how do I put it! interesting, but the whole thing is amazingly entertaining - if anything just watch it for the scene with the combine harvester, played out to the classic song!!! ...

He Was A Quiet Man
(Drama)By Antonynottage on 20/01/12
I wasn’t sure what to expect about this film, but it was superb, nice to see Christian Slater taking on a role which is completely different for him and he pulls it off a treat. Very entertaining, clever and keeps you watching throughout.
Acting is great, Story is great and I was also very impressed with the quality of the streaming, this was the first full length movie I have ever streamed and I can thoroughly recommend it and will be watching more, quality was great and there wasn’t any stalling or delays, just started playing immediately and I just sat and watched right through -...

After Sex
(Comedy, Romance)By Penelope on 19/01/12
A film about what people talk about after the deed is done, 8 different couples in a different scenario and situation in their lives each with their own view on love, sex and relationship. Scattered between these couples are an assortment of A-list, B-list, Unknowns and aged talents portraying a plethora of relationships spanning from one night stands to randy old couples.
There seems to be too many pieces moving in this film, each segment has their own qualities and worthy message but with so little time spent knowing each person, it makes it difficult to understand or accept what they are...

Abandoned
(Thrillers)By Penelope on 19/01/12
Seeing as this was Brittany Murphy’s last movie before her untimely death, I was surprised that there wasn’t as much coverage for it. Even though this cannot be compared with the media coverage of The Dark Knight after the death of Heath Ledger, it is a sad shame to see Brittany Murphy’s glowing career and talent slip away so quietly.
The film itself is just as dark, the story see’s Murphy’s character driving her boyfriend Dean Cain (Superman) to the hospital, nothing dark or suspenseful there, but the hours roll by waiting for Dean to finish his examination. Much to her surprise...

Blood On The Sun
(Classic, Thrillers)By Hugh on 16/01/12
James Cagney is a hardnosed reporter who acquires vital information about in impending invasion plan by the Japanese on China, Cagney might navigate the murky waters of espionage and assassination to make sure this information reaches the right people.
Filled with frantic action sequences and speedy chases, the tone of the film is dark and possesses suspense that Hitchcock himself would be proud of. The film won an Oscar for its art direction-interior decoration for a black and white film, so there is no shortage of artistry.
Blood on the Sun provides for decent viewing and has enough...

British Intelligence
(Classic, War)By Hugh on 16/01/12
Boris Karloff, a renowned name of black and white cinema, plays a scarred butler during war time London; concentrating on the efforts of British and German spies we follow the efforts of British agents working to capture/identify the German ringleader Strendler. Throughout the film the lead is centred on Margaret Lindsay’s Frances Hautry, who by the time the credits role is a quadruple agent, this is the only negative of the film as we see her change sides so often we don’t know whether we should be rooting for her or not.
As far as spy films go, British Intelligence serves up a...

Born to Win
(Crime)By Hugh on 16/01/12
Okay, let’s get this out of the way first. This is no DeNiro movie. He’s in the movie, but he doesn’t show his face until 30 minutes in and he’s really a supporting character at best. In truth this is really Segal’s film. And he’s great as the charming chancer, ably switching from drama to black comedy (showing the promise that was to come in Fun With Dick and Jane) without breaking a sweat. The story itself is a simple enough one, taking a grim look at the darker side of the drug trade in the early 70s, this makes no attempts to portray it in a glamorous light. If anything this...

Blackout
(Thrillers)By Hugh on 16/01/12
Black Out is a film about three people stuck in an elevator, boring right? well not if one of them is a serial killer and has a dead body in his apartment that needs disposing of before it is found.
As time drift away after failed attempt by failed attempt to break free, time is running out for the other two as our murderer comes to terms with his untimely incarceration.
Black Out is a dark, edgy film, simple direction and realistic emotions competently portrayed outline an outstanding film.

Black Irish
(Drama)By Hugh on 16/01/12
A dark look at an urban youths torn by loyalties, divided by family. Michael Angarano (Sky High) stars as Cole McKay, mild mannered, polite and obedient unlike that of his older brother Terry whom is bad tempered, rude, destructive and generally not a nice person to be with, his older sister is pregnant out of wedlock, his father (Brendan Gleeson) is an alcoholic looking for work whilst his mother is the strict catholic social worker set on keeping appearances.
Black Irish, most probably a note on the stains caused by the various fault throughout the family, is a noteworthy look at the...

Bigamist
(Classic, Drama)By Hugh on 16/01/12
Psychological drama with a very taboo subject, bigamy, Harry (Edmond Obrien) makes the mistake of falling for Ida Lupino whilst on one of his business trips away from fiancée Joan Fontaine. From this mistake a child is born and Harry takes it upon himself to care for Ida and the baby whilst still living his life with Eve (Fontaine), problems arise when the adoption agency officer that Harry and Eve are tasked with finds Harry commuting between the two families.
Dark, suspenseful and cleverly written, we feel empathy for the two women and even with the bigamist Harry himself, as he is...

Big Trees
(Action / Adventure, Classic)By Hugh on 16/01/12
Legendary movie star Kirk Douglas plays lumber baron Jim Fallon who crosses path with a Quaker colony intent on saving the giant Sequoias, initially at odds with each other Fallon slowly find middle ground with his neighbours but must now fight against his greedy ex-associates.
Set in beautiful scenery and bold colourful cinematography, Big Trees is outstanding in its location setting and visual display, at one point bringing to life a runaway train sequence that hold up very well after all these years.
