Savage
(Gangster Films, Thrillers)By Sinead on 08/01/13
Amazing film, dark, grim, captures a downcast Dublin city atmosphere all too familiar. The lead actor embodies the perfect introvert, whose life is turned upside down by a harrowing event. He unleashes a darkness upon an unsuspecting city….. Be careful of those dark alleys!!

The Stoning Of Soraya M
(Drama, World Cinema)By Anita on 09/10/12
I too watched this film as part of the film night tonight. Writing reviews isn’t something I tend to do, but I thought this film deserved some praise. I’ve not heard of the film until reading the email review this morning, but it definitely should have got a wider release for sure. `It’s a compelling story, one that’s impossible to comprehend in today’s world… I would recommend seeing this film…

The Whistleblower
(Thrillers)By Anita on 27/08/12
Watched the movie after reading the review by Tom, and I’m very impressed, but it depicts a stark reality that leaves nothing to imagination. Painful and honest bestowed by emotional performance by Rachel Wiesz..

The Whistleblower
(Thrillers)By Tom Shorter1 on 10/07/12
Although the atrocities in Yugoslavia covered news in the 1990s, what was hidden were the actions of military contractors in the region. “The Whistleblower” tells the story of Kathryn Bolkovac, who was a Nebraska police officer who joined a private company as a peace-keeper in Bosnia, only to discover that the company was complicit in human trafficking.
The really ugly scenes are when we see what is done to the trafficked girls. It almost seems as though the movie should have focused more on them. But what is equally important to understand is not only the atrocities committed with impunity...

Sex And Death 101
(Comedy)By Antonynottage on 16/04/12
I think this film was around the time Winona was shoplifting and having a few problems, so I was actually expecting the worst, but it really surprised me, both Ryder and Baker give great performances and the whole premise of the film is pretty clever and entertaining - I recommend!

Blackout
(Thrillers)By Penelope on 10/04/12
Interesting with a sound premise, Amber Tamblyn is stuck in an elevator with two other guys and as time passes, they become increasingly agitated and volatile. Each with their own reasons for wanting out of the elevator and as the story slowly unfolds to reveal these reasons we are privy to what is driving these people and the length they are willing to go to.
Though much of the film is shot in an enclosed space with only three characters to focus on, the cast and director manage to successfully portray the hysteria and fear from each individual. One complain I have is the anger and...

Baise Moi
(World Cinema, Adult)By Penelope on 10/04/12
With themes of Rape and Murder, this film is not accessible to all, from the outset the mood is dark with its raw sexual energy and undaunted direction, the film takes us on a journey of sex and death with two traumatised and deadly ladies.
The film is meant to disgust and shock, doing so with ease as the events which occur to the leading ladies is harrowing and bitter and shot in a way that it does not trade realism and brutality for anything.
Bleak and unabashed, definitely not for everyone.

The Great Debaters
(Drama)By Hugh on 26/03/12
With a cast like this, you know your on to a winner, Denzel Washington even tries his hand in the Directors chair, the acting is first class from sure hands like Washington and Whitaker but it is the young talent on show that heralds the next generation of African-American actors.
The topic of the film is not tied down to racism and equality, but freedom of speech and self-confidence to stand for what is right, to have a voice and be heard. This film sends out such a powerful messages it should not be left unheard.
